The Almaguin Highlands Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has been spending time on the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Club Trails (OFSC) this winter.
From January 28 to February 28, 2017 officers have patrolled the trails throughout the Almaguin Highlands area this season.
During that time, officers issued 66 Provincial Offence notices. 62 Provincial Offence notices were issued under the Motorized Snow Vehicle Act (MSVA) and three operators were charged under the Highway Traffic Act (HTA). Two drivers were arrested and charged with impaired operation and for having more than 80 milligrams of alcohol in blood, contrary to the Criminal Code (CC) and one operator was charged under the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act (CAIA).
The Almaguin Highlands OPP would like to thank the majority of snowmobilers who are responsible and remember if you have a few drinks, have a designated driver, stay the night or call a taxi.
