Emergency crews were kept busy Tuesday afternoon in Muskoka Lakes.
On Tuesday at 12:30 p.m., emergency crews responded to a head-on collision on Muskoka District Road 118 W, just east of the Mildford Bay Road intersection (near the Huckleberry Rock Cut).
Upon arrival, the two parties from the white Nissan were out of the vehicle , with the passenger complaining of chest injuries. The driver of the Honda CRV was trapped, and the ‘Jaws of Life’ had to be utilized to remove the driver’s door in order to extricate the female driver. At the time of this report, the OPP were still investigating the matter.
It was learnt the driver of the CRV was later flown from South Muskoka Memorial Hospital to Toronto via Ornge with her injuries listed as serious. For further information, please contact the Bracebridge OPP. Members from the Milford Bay and Port Carling assisted in this incident.
Shortly after the Port Carling Station was back in service, they were summoned to an excavator on fire on Scarcliffe Road, near Port Carling.
Upon arrival, the 2008 John Deere 50D excavator was fully engulfed. This fire was somewhat stubborn to extinguish as the fire was between the driver’s floor and the under-guard of the apparatus. With the use of foam, the fire was extinguished. This is believed to have been started for mechanical reasons, as the owner of the excavator stated, the excavator was idling for a moment, when he and his crew saw smoke coming from the engine area. By the time they arrived with an extinguisher which was close by and approached the vehicle, flames had rapidly spread.
With the use of another excavator, they removed the fully engulfed excavator away so flames would not spread onto the house which was being torn down. Damage is set at $80,000.
