A 28 yr old Huntsville man has been charged with impaired driving causing death in North Bay.
On November 28, 2017, at 9:00 p.m., members of the Ontario Provincial Police, (OPP) North Bay Detachment, responded to a motor vehicle collision on Highway 11/17 at Seymour Street in the City of North Bay, Ontario.
A passenger vehicle that was southbound on Seymour Street was struck by a pick-up truck that was traveling westbound on Hwy 11/17. When police arrived at the scene, members of the North Bay Fire and Emergency Service were assisting. Witnesses advised that the driver of the pickup truck had left the scene on foot.
The driver of the pickup truck was located in the vicinity by members of the North Bay Police Service.
The driver of the passenger vehicle was pronounced deceased at the hospital. He is identified as Travis Douglas WRIGHT, age 36, of the Township of McNab/Braeside, Ontario.
The driver of the pickup truck, Joseph Edward Fitzgerald, age 28, of Huntsville, Ontario, has been arrested and charged with the following:
- Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle – Causing Death contrary to section 255(3) of the Criminal Code (CC),
- Fail to Stop at the Scene of an Accident contrary to section 252 of the CC,
- Fail to Comply with Probation Order contrary to section 733.1(1) of the CC, and
- Assault with Intent to Resist Arrest contrary to section 270(1)(b) of the CC.
The accused is being held in custody for a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice, today in North Bay, Ontario.
