On Sunday January 21, 2018 Hydro One has a planned power outage for the areas of Bala, Torrance, and Walker’s Point.
The power outage is planned from 5am until 9am to install new hydro equipment and the outage is expected to affect 2300 residents.
Saturday evening into Sunday morning the temperature is expected to be around the freezing mark with forecasted conditions of scattered flurries. Muskoka Lakes Fire Chief Richard Hayes wants to remind residents “ during power outages of any length you need to take extra care when using candles in the home, or generators to keep the power on”.
Chief Hayes further goes on to say “If you are using a generator to provide power to your home, make sure the generator is running outside and not in an attached garage or basement.
The carbon monoxide that is emitted from a generator is very dangerous and can have hazardous effects on your health, or possibly death”.
For residents living in their home who are using assistive devices that require power to function their machines, but are not sure if the power outage will affect them, are encourage to contact Hydro One at 1-888 -664-9376 or go to www.hydroone.com and click on the outage map, and on the left hand side selecting “planned outage”. or if a number of residents are critically impacted by the planned power outage may open a warming centre at the Torrance Community Centre.
