For voters considering District Chair candidates, today’s announcement from the provincial government that the District Chair will NOT be elected in Muskoka came as a surprise.
Ford’s only response to reporter questions about the sudden move on municipal election process was that he promised all along to reduce big government.
Meantime, two pm today marked the closing time for nominations in municipal ridings. Here’s who is running and where according to the non-certified nomination papers listings (as of 230pm).
For Mayor, incumbent Donald Furniss is up against incumbent councillors Phil Harding and Terry Ledger.
In Ward A (Walker’s Point, Torrance and Bala area), District Councillor Ruth-Ellen Nishikawa has competitors in Gord Carlton and Brian Mayer.
Ward A councillor competitors include incumbents Donelda Hayes and Sandy Currie, along with newcomer Glenn Zavitz.
In Ward B (area encompassing Milford Bay, Windermere, and Utterson), running for District Councillor is incumbent Allen Edwards versus Larrie MacRae. Ward B also has four people running for the two councillor positions, including incumbent Linda Barrick-Spearn and newcomers Susan Mazan, Jason Harnett and Gordon J. Roberts.
In the running for the two seats of Ward C councillor are Ron Brent, Barb Bridgeman, Peter Kelley and Jeff Mole. For District Councillor in Ward C, incumbent councillor Jean-Ann Baranik will battle Frank Jaglowitz.
In Bracebridge, incumbent Graydon Smith is being challenged by councillor Lori-Lynn Giaschi-Pacini. For the three positions of District Councillor, newcomer Rick Hallam is taking on Don Smith, Steven Clement and Rick Maloney. For the one spot as Bracebridge Councillor, Chris Wilson is up against Kimberly Hayes-Rogers. Running for the one position in Monck/Muskoka Ward are Mark Quemby and Michael Gooch. Andrew Struthers, Tom Young, Paul Everitt, and Ruthann Cook will battle it out for one spot in Macaulay Ward. Archie Buie was the lone contender for Draper Ward as was Barb McMurray in Oakley Ward.
HUNTSVILLE (as of 2:30pm July 27)
Incumbent Mayor Scott Aitchison has a competitor in Peggy Peterson. For Town and District Councillor, six candidates are running for three spots, including Tim Withey, Nancy Alcock, Lillian Fraser, Helena Renwick, Bob Stone and Brian Thompson. For Councillor in Ward 1, Karin Terziano is alone in her field. As is Jonathan Wiebe in Ward 2 (Chaffey). For Stisted, Stephenson and Port Sydney (Wards 3, 4 and 5), two councillors will be elected. In the running are Jason FitzGerald, Larry Horton, Wanda Lumley, Dione Schumacher, and Charles Wilson.
In Ward 6 (Brunel), with one councillor to be elected, there are Daniel Armour and Ken Inglis in the running.
With Paisley Donaldson retiring, only Paul Kelly has thrown his hat in for the mayor’s spot. For District, there are John Gordon, Randy Jorgensen, Sandy Cairns and Heidi Lorenz in the running to fill three seats. In Ward 1, it’s all newcomers: Gordie Merton, Penny Varney and Murray McKeown. For Ward 2, Erin Eiter and Jo Morphy will battle it out for one post. In Ward 3, Steven Klinck is alone and could be acclaimed once certified. In Ward 4, Marc Mantha is up against long-time councillor Terry Pilger. And in Ward 5, Graeme Murray faces off against Audrey van Petegem for that one position.
Running against incumbent Larry Braid for Mayor is Peter Koetsier. For District Councillor, Wards, 1& 3, Paul Wiancko and Kristian Graziano are running. Peter Cooper and Alan Waffle are running for District Councillor Ward 2 & 4. For Ward 1 councillor, Cynthia Douglas and Louise Rivett are up against each other. Stephen Jarvis is alone in Ward 2. Susan Stokes and Brian Bochek are up against each other in Ward 3. And in Ward 4, the contenders are Kathy Kay and Allan Hazelton.
LAKE OF BAYS
There’s a three-way race for Mayor in Lake of Bays. In it to win it are Bob Young, Charles Cooper and Terry Glover. Martin Man and Mike Peppard are running for the Franklin/Sinclair District Councillor post. At time of posting, only Robert Lacroix had his nomination papers in for Ridout/Mclean Ward. In Franklin Ward, the contenders are Nancy Tapley and Charles Deacon. For Sinclair Ward, Rick Brooks, Norman Dyer and Gloria Schimmel hope to win the one position.
Henry McClelland is up against Penny McEachern in Ridout Ward. In Mclean Ward, Jacqueline Godard, Michelle Mary MacIsaac and Anstasia O’Hare will vy for the one post.
