MUSKOKA LAKES: The Muskoka Lakes Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce the first ever Midday Madness sale event in Port Carling on Saturday, August 18 from noon to 5pm.
“While other areas have had success with Midnight Madness, many local shoppers flock to the hub of the lakes by boat and head back to their docks before sundown, so we decided to put a little twist on the midnight idea,” says Muskoka Lakes Chamber manager Norah Fountain. “The response has been incredible,” she adds.
Over 30 businesses jumped right on board with contributions to the cause, allowing the Chamber to help bring in ten local musical acts and a face painter to give a street fair flare to Midday Madness – and have a musical theme through the entire village.
Visitors are encouraged to check out BOTH sides of the Port Carling locks for great deals in both downtown and uptown Port Carling. Musicians such as Sean Cotton, Ian Thurston, Shari Lundy and others will serenade you throughout the village (from Dogg on it to Aunt Doodies), and the kiddies can get their faces painted on Maple Street near the Muskoka Emporium. In the Duke’s building, there will be music and oyster shucking, too.
Fountain says Saturday, August 18 was chosen for the event because there was already a rowing race happening in the morning, so the idea was to have things going on all day long in Port Carling. It’s also a time when local stores put items on sale, so the Chamber thought it was a great opportunity to further support local businesses with a fun event.
It’s not too late to get involved, she adds.
Any business that has a storefront in Port Carling (no surprise pop ups, please) can put sale racks on the sidewalks and find ways to entertain Midday Madness visitors.
